Surrealist "Seeing Into"
The 6th graders learned about Surrealism and looked at work by surrealist artists. Students learned about Salvador Dali's method of seeing into pictures or other images to find new things. He called this the "paranoiac critical method" but we will stick with what Max Ernst called it... Seeing into. We discussed how people can have fears with art, such as the fear of not being good enough, or the intimidation os starting a drawing. To help with these fears, we are focusing on the process, not just the product. We are also respecting the work of our peers in order to create a safe environment for creating. Students worked on their own seeing into project and found images in the drops and and drips of black paint. Students awarded their peers "creativity" and "quality" tickets at the end of the lesson.
