MiXeD uP aNiMaLs!
The first graders began this mixed up animal unit by reading Eric Carle's The Mixed Up Chameleon. We then played a collaborative drawing game to make mixed up animals! Each student started with a big piece of paper, drew one animal body part, and passed it to the person next to them. We kept doing this until we had our original paper back in front of us. The students had a lot of fun with all the mixed up creations!
We then looked at Eric Carle's art and the texture he creates in his paint. We painted paper to prep for our individual projects- creating our own mixed up animals! Below you can see the planning and worksheet and a mixed up animal.
Next up- Painting a habitat for our animals.
