Dia des los Muertos Inspired Masks
“Dia des los Muertos” is a Mexican cultural holiday, taking place at the beginning of November, which honors and celebrates the lives of love ones who have passed. The holiday is rich with artistic traditions, from creating altars for the departed, to decorating sugar skulls. Students took inspiration from the ornate sugar skull tradition to create their own masks. Students could make a mask honoring another person, or create an identity mask. They designed symbols to represent their person of choice. Students used paper maché to create the base of their mask and painted their designs. Accents of gold, silver, and glitter were used to make them pop!
