Collaborative Sculpture
Inspired by Frank Stella
4th graders looked at work by a contemporary American artist, Frank Stella, as inspiration for this collaborative art installation. We focused on Frank Stella’s 3 dimensional abstract works. Students found elements of art in his work and discussed what they saw in the images. Frank Stella often creates the canvases for his paintings, and is not confined by the rectangular shape of most canvases. Students ran with this idea, using recyclable materials and scraps to create one patterned shape for the group project. We then assembled them all together to create the work of art you see here.
