Endangered Animals Habitats
Fabric Landscapes
4th graders began this project by choosing an animal from the World Wildlife Foundation’s list of animals of concern. Students researched their animals in library, learning about their habitats, diets, and characteristics. In art, students interpreted and discussed landscapes by contemporary artist, Alexis Rockman. We discussed the negative effects humans can have on the environment and discussed ways that we can help. One of those ways in being more conscious about the materials we use and to reuse as much as we can. Students then reused cereal boxes and fabric scraps to create the habitats of their chosen animal. Students showed depth of space in their artworks by showing foreground, middle ground, and background and overlapping objects.
