Deconstructed Still Life
The fourth graders are finishing up their still lifes in art. We began by looking at traditional still lifes from the Dutch Golden Age and discussed the characteristics they had in common. We noticed they : 1. Are a group of inanimate objects, 2. Have a table or some horizontal surface and 3. Show space through overlapping. We then looked at cubist still lifes and collages by artisits such as Pablo Picasso and Geroges Braque. We first drew gourds from observation, using 3 different color schemes. Lastly, we deconstructed the still life ourselves, using the parts of traditional still lifes and arranging them in a new way. We added pattern and mod podge and here are our results!
