Gerhard Richter Inspired Paintings
In second grade, we looked at paintings by Gerhard Richter. He has painted many paintings in many styles, including photorealistic and abstract. We focused on his abstract paintings and shared what we saw in the paintings and what they reminded us of. We thought about how he made his works and noticed that in many paintings the paint seemed to be pulled or smeared across the canvas. We then created our own abstract paintings by experimenting with materials including sponges, found objects, and squeegees.
