Found Objects Printing
For this project, students began by looking at the artwork of contemporary artist, Philip Taaffe. Students found elements of art including line, shape, texture, and color in his art. They also noticed that he used a lot of repetition. We discussed that an artist might use repetition to encourage the viewer to look all over the artwork. Students then created their own artworks by stamping or printing found objects. Students finished their work by painting with watercolors and exploring color mixing. Can you see lines, shapes, textures, colors, and repetition in these artworks by first grade artists? What objects do you think created these marks?
