Painted Paper Collage Musical Instruments
6th graders have been getting musical and messy in the art room! Students each selected a song to inspire their artwork. Students thought about the meaning and feeling of the song, thinking of adjectives to describe it. These adjectives were important when it came to the messy part- creating painted paper. How can I express my song through paint?
Students also looked at work by Romare Bearden, an artist who was working during the Harlem Renaissance. Romare Bearden was influenced by music throughout his life, from the gospel churches he attended in the South to the Jazz and Blues that surrounded him in NYC. Music inspired many of his collage works, including the "Of the Blues" series.
Students are now using their painted paper creations to create large scale instrument collages. I am very impressed after just one day! I can't wait to post the final images!
